Finally stopped in to hear Indigo's Flash mob. Did you realize that took place (appropriately) in the Air and Space Museum? (Many Smithsonian buildings line the National Mall in DC.) Loved that 1) they started with a beloved Bach tune and 2) a cello solo. Must have been tricky to sneak in the harp and kettle drums! Thanks for that.

Baldur

Good Morning.

This may have been posted here in the past, but I'm sharing it for the new generation.

A couple years ago one of our illustrious past members, Robindcr8l sent me the attached link:

http://snowdays.me/

I think at some point everyone has folded a sheet of white paper, cut off bits and pieces and then unfolded it to have a 'snowflake'. The attrached site is a snowflake generator. You are presented with a wedge of paper that you virtually snip to bits. It is unfolded and your flake joins the flurry.
Great fun.... look me up there under the name: Baldur Bear.

A neat thing to notice about the site is that the sky lightens and darkens with the passing hours. Very clever.
Enjoy

I enjoy my Snowdays. Many snowflakes circle the globe under my name: Maurie. It is so fantastic to get a response on your message months after sending it off into orbit. Hope to catch one of your flakes, Baldur.

What a fun site Baldur! I did one, then clicked on one that happened to be yours, then another, and suddenly about 5000 Baldur flakes were falling. Have you ever ordered any of their mugs or shirts, etc.? Expensive, but sorely tempting.
I expect mine is the only one that appears to have bats around the edges. (Who knew?)

lol Glad you are both enjoying it.
I've done polar bear and seahorse snowflakes, perhaps even bats way back in the day

Yersterday was National Chocolate Cake Day (US).
Did anyone else celebrate it?

Aloes are one of our most precious wild flowers. You need a permit to plant it in the garden. About 8 Km from where I am is "Alwynkop" (Aloe Hill), it is more a mountain and totally overgrown with Aloe Marlothii. From April to July these 6 meter high plants push out a scape with up to 50 red/orange/white panicles . It is the only aloe which blooms don't grow up right but horizontal. Bee farmers prefer aloes for their honey. Aloe Alooides bear green flowers that open up in the brightest yellow. Aloe Transvaalensis is a smaller Aloe with red/pink flowers and grow and bloom where ever they find a rock with a little bit of soil. Winter time is Aloe time and it is absolutely fantastic to see all the different varieties.

It must be spectacular. Thank you for explaining.

Thank you Lolla for the info on your Aloe. I fully believe in aloe, always have a bottle of the clear aloe on hand. I use it (or the actual plant) for burns, sunburns, shingles, and any skin or even muscle ailments. For anyone reading this, if you ever get shingles (have had them twice) use aloe! It takes the "fire" away and dries up the blisters and prevents it from spreading. Use it on any 'hot spots' to prevent blisters from forming. It seems to stop it in its tracks. For any places that the air cannot get to, you may need to be on a pain reliever (or keep wetting the area to keep it moist) as the heat will build up and hurt like hell. It was a God send to me on both occasions. I would think that it too would do wonders on chickenpox. Any questions on my experiences e-mail me at address on my profile.

Re 11274 - I celebrate brownies with chocolate frosting day any time I have to get
an eye shot ( one eye and approx 14 wks apart.) This is the best analgesic I have found. (Did not know about Jan 28...) Re Katidid - Never thought of aloes back when I had shingles - a nurse practitioner caught it early and the anti-virals helped immensely. Finally got the vaccine this year.

By the way, for those who haven't seen the movie, this is from "Groundhog Day" with Bill Murray. In this scene, Bill lets Punxutawney Phil (the groundhog) drive. It's a fun movie with a good message.

Thanks for Groundhog Day. Here is something from WWII.
I don't want to glorify war because whatever or whoever starts it, innocent people on all sides suffer equally.
However, this is truly amazing WWII recovered footage of an American pilot flying a British Spitfire for reconnaissance purposes. Well worth watching all the way through ... the pilot seeing some of it for the first time at the age of 83.

Thanks, Login, I loved that! My dad was too old to fight and was a H.S. science teacher. He ended up also teaching Ground School at a nearby airport for guys who then went on to Great Lakes Naval station to become combat pilots in the Navy. He decided to get a pilot's license himself and occasionally took my younger brother (4-5) and me (7- 8) for rides. (My mom was the white-knuckle type and only went once.) Those were fantastic films - very grateful to have seen them.
