She always goes on a rampage if someone accuses her of lying...... And what's with the Joe and Bob? There was this one time that we played a prank on Erica because she hadn't met me, I dressed in her priss clothes and I told her "I'm Addyson" And Madyson got on my sweats and she's like "No, I'm Addyson" When the prank was over we had lost Erica as a friend and Madyson had yelled at her for like, 10 minutes straight and she came home crying....

Meant to say thanks, Dragon, for your reply about strange dogs and cats. Had some friends once with the most peculiar cat. It'd be just sitting and the next thing you knew, it'd tear around the room, run into walls, chairs and whatnot. It'd go like that for a few minutes and then settle down. It looked like it hurt when it ran into things and I felt sorry for it and so did the owners. They said it'd acted that way since they got it when it was a kitten. Other than that, it was a "normal" cat.

My cat Oscar does that every now and again, though he generally just tears around and leaps on and off of furniture and window sills (doesn't really run into stuff). We call it 'The McBoing-Boings' or say he's in Full Idiot Mode.

We had an adorable cat, long departed. His name was Ali Cat (Ali for short) and in his old age, he would suddenly rune very fast, up and down the garden, as though he was in a race. Then he would settle back down to his slow, elderly self.

Hey, marius.. I am SOOOO jealous..

.. all I've wanted for years has been a Maine Coon, and I'm even happy to call him Marcel.. there's an absolutely brilliant clip on youtube where the cat is following a toddler around the house.. I'll post is as soon as I can find it !

.. plus, I used to have a brill cat called Waltzer (after Dire Straits 'Go crazy on the waltzers'), who used to chase his tail when he was sitting on top of the sofa, or on a window sill.. and kept falling off.. mad, but beaut !

marg ... you can find Maine Coon cats at shelters and on the web. There are amazing varities of color, hair length, etc. I read they will never be lap cats but are your best buddy and will follow you everywhere. This is true of ours, and of our neighbors ... but Chester, who belongs to good friend, IS a lap cat too. He sits on everyone's lap - all 23 pounds of him!

Hope you find a Maine Coon, or tee hee - one finds you! They are a delight ... although, must say sometimes this getting followed everywhere you walk in the house can be a bit of a pain. You feel like you're being "watched" or "spied on" 24-7!

Since Puck is a mix, he is small. His nickname is "nine pound sticktight" or just, "sticktight." He even has poems made up about him ...

I have a little sticktight who goes in and out with me,
And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.
(after that Shadow Poem by I forget.) : )

Maybe a lot of, or all, cats do the Mc boing-boings! Sounds like it.(Great descriptor of this activity btw!)

As long as they don't run into things and fall over dumb-founded like that one I knew long ago ... it does crack me up!

Oscar is terribly co-ordinated. He very rarely falls off things or runs into things despite his penchant for tearing around. He used to run into the living room, leap onto the couch, run along the back and literally dive down into the corner between the couch and the wall. He'd then come ripping out from the other end of the couch having run underneath it. This would all take about 1.5 seconds and he'd be gone down the hall again. We have a new couch now so this doesn't happen anymore. My older cat Ozzy has been a clutz since the first day I got him, as a kitten he'd frequently run head first into table legs and he's done numerous clutzy things like getting hung up by his back legs from a beaded curtain in a doorway. My personal favorite Ozzy moment was when he used to sleep in the bed with me, I woke up in the middle of the night to find a very panicked face in front of me. He was in the process of falling off the bed and was gripping the sheets with his front claws. I would have helped him back up but I was pinned under the sheets so all I could do was laugh as he slowly lost his grip. He never actually grew his dignity.

Dragon, love your Oscar and Ozzy moments! Oscar must have told our Puck what to do, and Puck has added to the routine: he likes to see how many times he can circle the room (at 95 mph) without touching the floor.

This is a somewhat related topic: I am open to pondering many things and one is reincarnation. Since we got Puck, even spouse has begun to ponder reincarnation as we are certain Puck was a model in a former life. Rarely a day goes by that one of does not call out, "call the cute police!" That means, run quick to see because Puck has found yet another adorable to pose to photograph. It's uncanny. We swear Puck knows he's cute and gets in these poses on purpose. The other cat swears this too. : )

But seriously, since you work at a vets, have you met animals who are extremely photogenic? Who seem to pose?

395. 16 Dec 2009 19:16

Dragon

Not very often will they pose while at the vet clinic (unless hiding in the back of their kennel, shivering or possibly growling constitutes posing) but I have definitly met irripressibly photogenic pets. We have a digital camera and often take pictures of the cutest and the ones doing funny things. We also take pictures for their profile in the computer (my Ozzy is wearing his elf hat in his picture, I'm sure if he had any dignity he'd be mortified to know that I often show it to random clients).
Do you remember when Bill Clinton got a puppy while he was in office? The choice of dog was very much the decision of his publicists, it was a Lab (because Lab's were very popular at the time) it couldn't be a black lab because they aren't photogenic enough (they always just seem to be a vaguely dog like black shape in pictures) it couldn't be a yellow lab because they are too photogenic (couldn't take all the attention off POTUS now could we) and so he wound up with a chocolate lab (just photogenic enough I guess).

396. 16 Dec 2009 19:17

Here's something interesting you may not know, despite what many people believe there is no such thing as a Golden Lab. There are Yellow Labs and there are Golden Retrievers but unless it's a cross breed there are not Golden Labs.

397. 16 Dec 2009 19:23

marius

That is hysterically funny about how the POTUS picks a pet. It explains why (in my opinion) the white house never has really cute pets! LMAO about this one. Wait till spouse hears about it cause he's wondered the same thing.

Did not know there are no golden labs. Have only met black ones. Have met many goldens, people seem to love them in this area.

Wow, I didn;'t think they existed, either. Well, maybe if you made a gold statue of a Lab.

My goodness, I realized it has been a really long time since solo has been in here. Since the 11th of December from what I can tell. Hope all's well with her.
