Thank you mum23 for the interesting link, and thanks Normal for the musical and colours explainations. I'm looking for a bunch of tim for drawing (on paper!) your 12/parted circle. The musical theory is still a bit hard for me but the zodiac is very familiar to me so I'hope to success.

Now a new question: is it possible to match couples of complementary colours with white colour inside? i.e. what could be the complement of pink or baby-blue? a withe-ish green and white-ish orange? or a brown-ish one?

clorophilla, I just tried it on the page that I mentioned before:

http://colorschemedesigner.com/

Click on 'Adjust Scheme' (along the bottom) you get a box which allows you to darken or lighten your colours as much as you wish. You then click on 'Hues', which is next to the Adjust Scheme button, and it will take you back to the original page. The example box to the right shows you your sets of colours which are now lighter or darker than the originals. I hope that makes sense... if you try it you'll find it quite easy, I think!

The quick answer is that a lighter tone(?) of a colour has a complementary which is also lighter. I kind of hope that five will see this and give you (and the rest of us) a better answer! Over to you, five!!

Well, it looks like the week is over already! I hope you've all enjoyed this as much as I have.

There have been many new and wonderful drawings by many new and 'old' wonderful artists. Thank you to those who found some old pics to contribute, and those who helped us learn some more about this subject (take a bow, five). Thank you also to Normal for introducing us to the idea that colour, music and the zodiac can be brought together... that was enlightening for some and confounded many more! (I hope you're feeling better, Login! )

I think I just counted 45 new pictures for this challenge, so I hope you'll forgive me if I don't mention each of them while I wrap this up! It has been great to see how you've used the complementary colours, and I'm glad that so many of you seemed to enjoy playing around with the idea.

Without any further ado, I'd like to pass the baton to one of our newer TDers for this lovely pic

UM...TY. OK big question, what do I have to do? HELP!

89. 10 Oct 2010 16:12

Normal

Pick a topic to draw, start a new thread called Challenge 54 (LIV), and explain what you're looking for and when you will declare the winner.

People have been using a week, or maybe two, for submissions. Enjoy!

Pumpkingirl, to start a new thread for your challenge, click on 'Forums', then 'Community'. At the bottom of that screen you'll see 'Start New Topic'. Click on that, enter a title for your challenge in the top box, and tell us what you'd like in the bigger box below it!

Have fun!

can i ask a question what is the difference between most ratings & highest rated

93. 25 Oct 2010 13:18

'Most ratings' is where a drawing has had the most people rating it. There is no limit to the number of ratings it can attain.

'Highest rated' is where a drawing has the highest ~average~ score ... all the ratings will have been added together and then divided by the number of people rating it. 'Highest rated' can be anything from zero to five ... it can not exceed five. If a drawing had nine ratings of 5 and one rating of 1 it would be calculated thus: 9 x 5 + 1 = 46 ..... divide 46 by the number of votes to find the average vote ..... 46 ÷ 10 = 4.6

... click on any drawing and then hover the cursor over the stars underneath it ... a figure between 0 and 5 will appear ... that is the average of all its ratings.

thank U login

Thanks Login also. I never knew you could "hover" and see the average score.

The total number of votes and the number of times it is "favorited" also figure into the equation as to what drawings make it to the Top 5, correct?

97. 26 Oct 2010 11:17

five

mdawrcn, they have an undisclosed formula that uses the total number of votes, the number of favorites, and the average rating. In the end, I think the number of votes and the number of favorites are largely determinative, but where those factors are close, the average rating will have an impact. I suppose the average rating also potentially reduces the number of people who see the picture to vote on it, since the pic is pushed back in pages if anyone is sorting by highest rating when they view the gallery. The gallery is sorted by "recent pics" by default, however, and people get notice of the pictures of anyone who they are following (meaning the sort issue would tend to hurt newer TDers more). Still, for reasons incomprehensible to me, there is still down voting that appears intentioned on keeping pictures out of Top 5 (or I guess is just mean spirited): it's unlikely to change the Top 5 these days and it's an unfair way of winning (how could you feel proud if you managed Top 5 by downvoting others). My two cents. I'm in a grumpy mood.

Although the challenge is closed, I'd like to post here new exemples of complementary coloured pics. We can't miss some drawing with the new theme!
