please do this more often, Qsilv. I was delighted to read that comment. (then again i can't stop wondering how Thursday's child would look like. Monday's child was quite a character to me, I was thinking it would have been so nice to 'complete' the poem... )

pff... me too, Shanley... I actually made a small pencil sketch of a child for each of the days before admitting to myself that really doing them all would just lead me deeper into the pit of guilt I'm already wallowing in... (albeit, wallowing with a suspicious amount of glee today... think oinking sounds rising up from a heaving mound of fresh mud..)

Well, maybe one by one, taking your time..I know inspiration doesn't actually fall from skies as many tend to think. Would have loved to see the sketches, I'm sure they are better than you think. On the other hand trying them directly on TD might help too. The pencil can only add the lines, but volumes, colours and other wonders might come naturally when seeing the pieces of a certain pallette. I knoo I had given it a lot of thought for 'the spirit of water' pic. Had this stupid idea of trying something all in blue, but couldn't imagine how to work the face really, because the blue parts are not symmetrical as I would have wanted (for making the drawing a bit more realistic, with muscles of the face, etc.). Then I thought if i just sat down and give it a try, it couldn't harm. And I settled for the 'mozaique' solution. So I guess, it's always worth taking in consideration more than one option.

Difficulty? -- Angles, of course... and getting similar depth of color.

I had expected the problem to be finding a bright enough orange... but it winds up being the lack of a rich dark brown that throws it off.

Easiest aspect? -- Matthew had already worked out a strong composition.

It's worth noting tho' that at the start I went flying along so I was thinking, a trifle smugly, "oh I'll be done with this in no time... piece of cake". But long after I had the lines positioned and the major fill, I found myself fussing over small stuff to get the feeling. Subtle adjustments affect the ferocity of that eye... the attentive frown... any sculptural depth...

...and of course my respect for the originator climbed exponentially... heh heh.

http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=74400 - in Fruit

http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=74565 - in Flowers

This was based on a combination of things, but mostly marg's comment recently about Avatars palette annoyingly not having decently dark faces.

Hardest thing about the Fruit was discovering that even the smallest settings were simply too big. No dark pointy bits.

Hardest in Flowers... mmm... nothing really, it just takes forever to do the blends.

I don't have forever, (and I've already stolen an embarrassing number of hours, playing on this today!) so instead of achieving that lovely machine-engraved quality, I'll just console myself that it's "painterly".
