Q, i just wanted to say thank you for starting this challenge, it has done wonders for the gallery, meaning there's several quality pictures on each page instead of having to sort through all the flying pig faces and standalone gummies to find something of interest. also thank you for sharing your lessons, I learn so much from you! |

In fruit, inspired by Matthew's tiger eye, but not an exacting copy. |

Loved the conversation about art teachers and copying vs not copying. Heidi made a great point about copying an existing work teaching you how to render something but not teaching you how to create. We had a project in a high school art class, the idea was to take an exsisting art work by a well known artist and recreate it as something completely different. I took a picture of a snow covered mountain top and turned it into a bowl of ice cream covered in chocolate sauce. The point was to get us thinking of new ideas while giving us a platform to start with. It was an interesting project. |

BTW, though I haven't contributed I am loving this challenge, I think it's the most participated in challenge we've ever had. I think it's a great idea to start a more permanent thread after the challenge is over so we can continue exploring this. Arw's right, sometimes I get a little overwhelmed by the flying pig faces, it's nice to see consistently thoughtful art work in the gallery. |

Thanks to Five & Login for explaining the how-to. I'm also enjoying the art teacher stories. Our grade school had two of each level 1 - 8. In upper grades the teachers moved from room to room to teach their specialties. The history teacher also did art. I was in pig heaven in 6th grade for being one of 6 (or 7, depending how many windows) to illustrate from our Ancient HIstory book on the classroom windows. Temperas & Egypt - such fun. High School was huge and had excellent Art Dept. I did regular drawing/painting, then last 2 years got to take jewelry-making. All great teachers, lucky me. |

I loved jewellery making in art class, I still have a necklace I made in Gr. 12. (The rings I made were awful though) |

Fascinating factoid -- Matthew's tiger was the first drawing offered as a teaching piece here on TD. He offered it in steps to show us a highly effective technique, and it has garnered 180 votes to date. |
