Well Puzzler, it is confusing as you say, but TD being an American site (with its origins in Pitsburgh) I suppose we're the ones who should adapt to the date format.

puzzler

It was a throw-away comment Shanley.

I didn't know it was American. Shanley is there info somewhere on here that tells us anything about it's origins?
When I first started using the site a pop-up window kept appearing telling me that I needed to install a program that allows the Hebrew alphabet.
Because of that I had assumed the site originated in Israel.
Eventually, after clicking 'NO' many times the window stopped appearing.

Shanley

Well, actually no, there isn't any information about it. But one can always find out the IP of a site and then check its address.

Baldur

ok, thank you, and you are very clever.
I had just reread the 'about Thinkdraw' page and followed the links around.
No physical location was forthcoming.

Bladur, now that you mentioned the Hebrew alphabet needed to be installed, there is always a chance that a server from another country is being used, although it doesn't really make much sense. I'm started to think, there would be nice to have an 'About TD' button in the menu. Just to have some idea to whom we owe the pleasure of using TD.

My apologies, I misspelled your name, Baldur.

Baldur

There is a link just below the comment box on this very page.
Look for the grey line that says @2010 ThinkDraw-About
The word 'About' is a link

Baldur

I used '@' instead of the mark for 'copyright' because I'm too lazy to look it up.

lol, funny i hadn't noticed that 'till now. I'm just curious about something: was 'Animals '/'Avatars' theme made by the users' request?

71. 4 Jan 2010 10:39

Baldur

We are asked for imput but I am not aware of anyone specifically asking for these particular themes.
'Avatar' has been fairly unpopular with the ThinkDraw users who have been here the longest. There was quite a bit of negative talk about it when first introduced.
'Animals' received some negative response too but not as widespread as 'Avatars' received

I would've liked 'Animals' to have less color limitations (red and blue especially), but other than that I believe it's one of the most enjoyed themes, some master it so well and it offers a great palette. Some of the best pics here, were made in 'Animals' (let's just think back to Chompersaurus' and Chinky's recent pics, not to mention other 'photo-like' pics). As for 'Avatars', most of the elements can't be used successfully as colors, no wonder it's not very popular.
Anyway, I suppose people are always skeptic when it comes to new, so probably the next theme will also get some negative responses. Still, I'd be really curious to see a new theme and put my imagination to work. Maybe a 'gems/rock' theme, hmm..

Shanley, are you sure TD is an American site? I have always been under the impression it was based in London. Maybe I'm wrong (not unknown) but somwhere along the TD journey I have made a few assumptions:

I had always assumed that Mike Lee of 'Michael Lee Paints' was our long absent fellow TDer 'likemee'. He is based in London and did appear to be linked with TD, especially in its early days.

As Rachel's surname is Lee, I had also assumed that she and Mike were related.

I know that Rachel Lee and Gideon Greenspan have written books together, but how I came to the conclusion that Rachel and Gideon are also based in London will remain a mystery ... to me.

To quote that lovable rogue, Fagin "... perhaps I'd better think it out again ...".

I always assumed it was an American site because the time zome it uses is Eastern Standard Time.

As for requesting new themes, I did suggest an Animal theme back when I was fairly new to the site and I'm sure I wasn't the only one who did. I know there were several people who asked for a theme with more realistic portrayals of people's facial features and different skin tones than the Faces theme had. I believe the Avatars theme my have been in response to that but I don't think it succeeded very well as all the background heads look like aliens and there isn't a natural skin tone in the lot. I've use it a time or two and have seen some true masterpieces done with it but it definitly isn't my favorite.

Interesting, really.. Gideon's apparently based in Tel Aviv, 'though he was educated in the UK.. and yes, it would seem Mike is based in London (and Login, Mike definitely admitted to being likemee ages ago).

My guess is that Gideon started the whole thing up - with Rachel as a partner - and that he then retired from much active involvement, and left Rachel and her team to support it.

Think Draw time is definitely US EST, but could be that's just where the server is - or was, initially - probably moved to Asia since then !

.. mind you.. I forgot Baldur's 'Hebrew' reference.. so maybe the link to Tel Aviv is stronger ? It's got to be pretty easy to choose what time you want 'Think Draw Time' to be !

All this discussion is very illuminating to me!!!!
Yes, I also had the fantasy that Mike Lee was the talented likemee and he and Rachel were brother and sister. I didn´t know about the Hebrew message because it didn´t happen to me and it´s true..... the time is American.... but Mike is based in London.... the format of the date is American. The only thing I don´t understand is where you got this name Gideon Greenspan from. Never heard from him before.
By the way, we say 4/1/10 to January 4th like in UK and not like in US.
And Shanley must know how to trace an address if she says this site is from Pittsburgh.

And please Rachel.... you promised a new topic, medium or category or whatever you call it.... please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike Lee = LikeMee is true

If ya want to plead w/ Rachel for a new theme, I don't expect she reads Channel Goldie. I could be wrong...
