Here is a neat effect... I used the two DIFFERENT shades of purple in gothic to create the effect around the moon...

And for those that haven't noticed... The "Black" background in Gothic is actually BLUE...

I have not had a good "how do you" question on this post in quite some time...

Surely there is something y'all can challenge me with...

Oh, Polenta.... I wish my mom even cared about what I can do with a few pieces of candy or flower petals....

A challenge huh... Okay, how would one pull off a fading effect in a picture. Like say... someone lurking in the fog, or like from the movies where all the focus is on a distinct object or person and everything else is blurred out or a flashlight shining down the hallway on a dark night or a person looking through a window with a transparent reflection of them self looking back at them.. Oooh that would be a good one to draw...

Ah... Now we are back to begging Rachel to give us a medium with transparencies with no hard edge lines...

I have played with this concept & have yet to grasp anything other than a semblance of my intention... I hope to achieve it, but I must be really psyched up for the next attempt 'cause I assume it will be a long sitting...

That said, maybe Chinky can do it...

The very round wide open eyeballs in 'Avatar' are the best fog piece we have to work with.
The white part is translucent, you can overlap them to emphasize the effect.
That being said it would be difficult to use them effectively.

Mhm, agreed. My other thought was to use hatching and cross hatching with the eyebrow pieces or any other piece that can create hatch marks in the other mediums.

nodding.... cross hatching with flower stems, fruit stems, that eyebrow thing, a few of the pointy bits in gothic, and the whisker thing in animals... best we can do for now.

I'd LOVE to have transparency!

My question for Matthew and/or anyone else is for tips on how to find/make/steal TIME... lol

(I reeeeeeaaaallly am trying to get back to having enough time in my life to do drawings w/ more work in 'em than a half-planned one hour sketch.... )

how would one do shading for drawing something like fabric? So that it looks like it was folded or wrinkled?

matthew

I will put some examples on my to do list list...

I just finished doing house keeping on my gallery... (deleted like 80 pics)... Now I have some things to do around the house & then will come back...

Is there a particular medium (theme) you would like me to work in?

Please teach us matthew.

Thank you, I like working in gothic, but if I knew more about the others I might use them more.

I'd like to see some work in fruits. Somehow I don't seem to get along very well with this medium. It might be because of 'shine' of the pieces.

Fruit is very difficult in my opinion.
