How have you improved over time, in your drawings here? I thought this would be an interesting topic idea.

So I was looking at all my old pictures (on GOLDIEGIRL8) and wow, I have improved so much. On my old drawings, I was a 9 year old girl, who used chatspeak and spent like 3 minutes on each drawing... Now, I can see how much I have improved and matured over the years.. I finally achieved my 4-year-standing goal of a Top 5, and I now can make pieces I'm proud of..

How have you all improved, as an artist here?

I'll respond real quick.

I had very little idea what I was doing. To me, the easiest way to see my improvement is to look at my self portraits.

My first took me about 4 hours and looks like this: http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=194438
My second took about an 1 1/2 hours and looks like this: http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=196645
One of my latest took about two hours, but that was a brand new palette and I spent lots of time exploring. It looks like this: http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=200030

So not only are my pics a bit better, but I'm getting faster at doing them. Most of that is getting familiar with the pieces and how they can be used.

I see what you mean- you were getting more familiar with the pieces and the palettes. For me, it's the opposite- I find myself spending more time on each new picture I make!

I had a fast improvement in the very first days on TD, then the improvement became a slower but uninterrupted process. After 3 weeks I mastered so well Animals to draw things like this:

but just few days after I broke my right wrist and ankle ad fell back to this:
http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=75873
because I had to draw with the left hand!!
Anyway, the improvement with left-hand drawing was very fast, beyond any expectation, and just 10 days later I achieved to draw so:

and less than 2 months later, so:

the interesting thing is that, when I finally had my right hand back, i draw with both for a while. Then I went back to right drawing, but I did it with more creativity.

I had to be very grateful with TDers that foster my creativity with interesting challenge, as CHelydra's Mild Cubism,

I learnt a lot from all these challenges, as from some very stimulating showcase, as "old masters" "Sculptures" or "Black and white".

I see I improve every day, but the most instructive moments has been throught the confrontation and sharing with other TDers.

I think the main thing that has changed for me is how I look at the world. I literally will see it in thinkdraw pieces. My drawings are all over the place as sometimes I like experimenting, joking, being commercial (doing things just to increase hits) and then being spurred off others. So many times I start drawing one thing and see another. Half my extra time other will never see as it is testing pieces before drawing. Actually my first picture is part of my personal top 15, as it was very real to the gut artist in me. Hits and misses all along.

i have improved over a few months using this method - how to blend, how to shade, and getting more complicated. it was great watching how other good artists here created their pictures. Right now, i can't seem to stop trying out different pictures - some are good and some just okay. The best thing is the people here who are supporting each other. so i'd like to really thank everyone who has commented on my work so encouragingly
