I've experienced great difficulties drawing circles lately.
I heard all pros (painters, designers, architects, etc.) practice circles in the beginning of their studies and now I surely realize its meaning.

So I challenge you "circles" at this time!

Let me describe how exciting drawing circles is. (Hoping many of you like the idea...)

Here are two example from my recent drawings.

http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=129452
This is drawn from the center of the circle based on the shape of the pearl piece from the pallet.

http://www.thinkdraw.com/picture.php?pictureId=130829
This circle is created from outside, which is much harder than from inside. And also, this circle is intentionally drawn incompletely due to the shadow of sun light. (even though I'm not completely satisfied with the shape... )

You choose whichever you prefer!

Circles include ovals, semi-circles, quarters, and any parts of circles as long as we see they are parts of circles.
Also, popular circles include 'sun', 'moon' and 'galaxy', but, of course, abstract images are very welcome.

Have fun folks!

Oh, circles can obviously be either the principals or supporting roles of your pics.

The challenge will be end at the end of Feb. 6th and the winner will be announced on Feb. 7th.

nodnod... what you're saying, hanging, fits my own experience. Drawing circles is a skill worth practicing.

In fact, I was taught to write cursive in a very old-fashioned way by my grandmother... tracing rows and rows and rows of angled lines, then loops, then --yep, circles of varying sizes. Later I was taught to do lettering for signage, and that started by painting huge strokes on full sheets of newspaper using full arm movements, then smaller and smaller til it was under the control of my hand, then just my fingers... and ultimately of course my brain. Eventually I could see when the circle was off even the tiniest bit, and my hands no longer betrayed my will.

Arcs became central to my own way of seeing... and perhaps that colors my overall thinking now too. I know I certainly prefer the psychological implications of a welcoming embrace over an aggressive fist or intrusive barricade... so I won't leave clutter smack in the middle of my floor or desk... or even put a fountain dead-center in my garden (yes, go ahead and laugh... I'm grinning at own foolishness here)... and almost every bit of my drawing is based on more of an encircling arc than a central point or fence-like lines.

I almost always want a sort of pond-like, meadow-like, inviting emptiness there in the center...

This one is really very old, in fact it dates back from before the Repeat button was available so there was a whole lot of excessive clicking involved in making it. I had a terrible time getting the circle to be uniform.

So, I've just checked my gallery here, and of the slightly over 200, only a handful are NOT based on a partially encircling arc.

Here are 10 tho' that push the circle for itself, rather than just as support for the composition--

Wow, what fabulous pics/inputs I see here!
All those pics are definitely circles but having all different colors, feels and meanings.
(Did I expect this much excitement when I came up with this challenge idea? NO!)

THANK YOU FOLKS FOR JOINING IN.

Now I feel like need to practice circles for myself more than ever!

yes, drawing a circle may be really challenging... here some of my past attempt. The following poor attempts demonstrate how hard it was for me - and the playback don't show how many time I did and undid the pieces!

I agree with qsilv that drawing a circle is not easy, I remember a story told by my mother, in fact not a story but a history, yes one king called Raja Ravi Varma, who was ruling in one of the southern state called Kerala in India, was not only a good king but a very good artist as well. Once there was a drawing competition , in which he also took part, and could not reach the venue at the right time. Just before the closing time he managed to reach and went to the place given to him on the wall to draw, took a pencil in his hand and stood there in front of the wall staring at the empty wall. then started at one point drew a big circle and put the pencil down and went back to his kingdom. people wondered at this, they expected something more than this from him. Yes, you guessed it right, he was the winner, because the circle was so perfect, same radius all around.
not boring you, just wanted to share.
here are few of my old circles and one one new as well.

Anybody is interested in seeing the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma can go to this link. He painted mostly human figures. Enjoy
