Feedback forum's silent so far, too....

Definitely looks like that suggestion of automatically starting with a 4.

If someone's truly malicious, it'll show soon enough with a flurry of low votes on the highest again.

But if it's really just been the skewed 'veto; effect, it should let us jostle around a bit more freely WITHIN the top rankings...

and that could encourage us to really use more of the whole scale as it was originally intended... ie. vote 4's as a RELATIVE assessment... I think I like that.

This test blows your theory...

Gave myself a 5 & went to the head of the class in showcase...

Someone voted us all low marks, I saw the pages row, I don't believe any formula was applied. Then they someone voted me 2-3 5's and two lows so I'm not out of the running for the showcase as well as any top 5's using any of the showcase pictures I submitted. AT first I thought someone was trying to right a personal wrong because they were voted out but then I get all these votes to my picture all at once.

I'm not computer tech. I have come across two accounts now that look like bogus accounts. One has no pictures and the other one has two pictures that would take seconds to do. I know if this can be fixed somehow this will be a nice group. The first thing that struck me when coming here was that no one wanted to give anyone a 4. I thought wow, people are caring here. Now I knew why no one wanted to vote 4's. What I've seen in showcase has been more than strange. This can't be taken care of by blocking someone from voting and/or coming to the forum; they need to be kicked out. And when they sign up for a new account kicked out when they do the same things.

That should read I'm now out of the running for showcase as well as any top 5's using any of the showcase pictures I submitted.

Correction. I got the two low vote together but not the good votes.

4.77 is my score with 22 votes. I had a straight 5 until I got bad votes all together. I think this is 3 bad votes but I didn't do the math.

........20 votes of 5 + one of 2 & 1 of 3........

.....or.....

........ 20 of 5 + one 4 & one 1.......

=105 points devided by 22 votes = 4.77

Thanks Matthew.

You cannot restore someone to harmony by belittling them or by punishing them, or by being disgusted with them. It is only through love that you can return anyone to love. And if you do not have a way of returning them to love, they will always be a problem to your society.

That said, if you take away the reward for creating a problem, they will go be dis-harmonious somewher else.

Maybe someone should go through all the pics for Feb & give all 1's! ~just top level the playing field? This is getting WAY to serious! Maybe Rachel will come up with a fairer system, but not until ALL pics have the same amount of TIME to accrue votes AND to factor out vengeance votes. Maybe we should ALL stop voting at all & simply comment to one another!? I really thought things were going much nicer... well is it guys?
Come on~quit going on the defensive so quick & ENJOY each other!!!! OK. There. Rant over. Goodbye.

Luna's observation --only through love-- has been wandering around in my head all day. (smiles) As a psych experiment, that one worked well on me.

Seems pretty clear that Matthew's right, my hopeful theory wasn't the explanation... but... SOMEthing beyond the usual is going on.

New pix do arrive in the Showcase and linger a while with 5.0 average from just a very few votes...

...but then they sink... and for significant amounts of time now, most of the 1st page is full of pix with 10+ votes, averaging 4.9+

DMarla's lovely sewing machine did get booted too far down (in my opinion), but the skew seems less overall.

It occurs to me this time that perhaps someone is doing what lynnspotter mentions --and not out of meanness but as an earnest attempt to level the field MORE fairly.

(By all means come up with experiments! --lol)

Frankly, altho I do enjoy the dickens out of the Showcase, I'm getting more pleasure with less stress in the Forum invitations to produce within a theme but "No Winners, No Losers"!

If the "reward for creating a problem" really was to upset us, then --as Matthew posted originally-- it's not working on me because being top is not what I care most about.

I'm enjoying the camaraderie, the cleverness, the creativity, the kindness, the caring... that IS abundant here.

Thanks for it!

The first day that I joined Think Draw my husband said “what a useful way to study and evaluate people by their drawings.”
He thought it would be a great sociological experiment.

Little did he know how right he was. Do either of you have a psych background. I have a friend that has her license in counseling that has lead me to books on this subject and how to heal from it.

37. 22 Feb 2009 18:07

DMarla

I didn't make that clear. This lady has been a help to me to help me heal from being abused.

I didn't say all this to talk about myself. I have been working on my website a lot lately so I can possibly help someone.

No neither of us have a psych back ground although my husband loves to read about it and watch people. I think he would have been good at it because he has helped me so much in my child hood abuse.

Wow, LaDonna, that is great he has helped you like this.
