Above site is fabulous. You can hear the songs of any North American bird plus tons of other things. Backyard Bird Watch is one of my favorite activities and it's free! Enjoy!

Two of my favorites at that site ...

Willow Ptarmigan (click to hear sound of its voice)
http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/willow_ptarmigan/id

Wood Thrush (click to hear song)
http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Wood_Thrush/id

When I taught 2nd grade, played both these songs for the kids and they had to write a story about who/what had made those songs/sounds. Not ONE of the kids knew the ptarmigan song came from a bird, but the stories created were hilarious!

Marius, LOVE these links! Thanks! The Ptarmigan sounds like a cartoon character of some sort to me. Like an alien on a cartoon. And the Wood thrush sounds like the second-grade version of my son when he was learning how to play the recorder! LOL

Robin, loved your bird call link. There were others on that page that were fun to visit too. I'll be back to check them out.

Hazer, saw that clip on TV once, but so worth revisiting. This past Monday we had a tufted titmouse singing in our bald cypress. That was amazing for two reasons: it's the first bird song I've heard this winter and it's the first time in the five years we've lived here that a titmouse has visited our neighborhood! I swear the bird was saying, "Spring is on the way."

I had run out of bird seed for a period of time, so the poor winter birds were going hungry, and got used to finding food elsewhere, I guess. Finally, a couple of weeks ago I made it to the local pet store which is the only place I can find the non-germinating bird seed. (the germinating type sprouts corn, sunflowers, and multiple weeds throughout my front flower beds.) So I paid the big bucks and filled the feeders. Took a little while, but the birds have finally found the feeders. Now they are empty again in a matter of days. I like to picture the first lucky bird who finds them eating his fill, then flying back and announcing his find to the whole flock! What a popularity contest!

February 12-15 is the GBBC, or Great Backyard Bird Count. For more details, go to post # 6117 in Channel Baldur or just check out the site below. Experience is not required and it's a fun and cheap activity. Know some families with kids who participate and the kids get to add in the data, which they LOVE. Also, check out the photo section.
