...As it turns out, I do care...

...We can't have this system & it must be fixed!!!

...Puzzler's drawing of Mt Rushmore received 45 votes & 50+ comments on her wonderful work & made the top 5 being listed 1st in line...

...What if I gave that drawing a "4" instead of a "5" vote?

...You guessed it... instead of being the best animal pic for Jan 2009, it would not have made the top 5 at all. Not only that, it wouldn't make the top 500 anymore... Just because of my vote...

...Top 5 MUST...MUST...MUST be changed based on most ratings or most viewed...

...Argument for most votes:...Never have I seen a elemenary pic with over 20 votes...

...Argument for most viewed:... I don't know who mentioned this 1st, but it is good... If a picture catches your eye enough to open for a closer look then it should recieve recognition...

...Argument against most viewed:... Untested for one. I look at nearly every pic not just the good ones. If someone draws a penis sporting gingerbread man I am going to open it, comment my displeasure & move on. So now my vote is equal between Mt Rusmore & penis boy...

...Argument against most ratings:... I have none. Go to "Gallery" View it by "Most Ratings"... Now how many pages do you have to go through before you see a drawing undeserving of a top 5 honor?

...There have been many thoughts on this subject... Some very complicated fixes... but the system we use is CRAP...

Please vote for your choice of fixes...

Rachel you have heard this complaining from us for months... Are you working on something different?... Are you happy with what you have?... Are you looking to hear more from us? ...

...Whew... I feel better now... lol...

...but ask yourself... is your highest rated pics & your best pics the same thing???

...I bet more than likely, your best pics have them most ratings...

I am in total agreement of the pictures with the most ratings being in for the top 5. I also think the 1-5 stars should be set aside and instead use a vote or no vote system. This has been mentioned before several times by others and it seems to be the best way to alleviate the problem of 1 lower vote taking you out of the running.

I agree with Matthew and Dragon. I have suggested vote, no vote before. The best picture I have done has been dropped out of site by a 4 vote.
You can look and comment without voting. If you don't like a picture say why, or just move on. If you like it, vote.

puzzler

Thanks for the publicity Matthew! But seriously, I agree with suggestions about using most ratings and the one vote system. I would not go for the most viewings, because of the banter that can occur on one pic, which would skew the results.

Thank you Matthew. I do think the judging is very unfair. I'm not a whiny person, ike fairness. I'm not speaking just for me, in this case "I" includes others. "I" will have many drawings and a low average, I see other drawings with little if any content in them, not as many drawings - their average is higher, come on, there is something wrong here. Am I right or wrong? I don't like bothering you with this but it seems you aren't really please either. Fairness counts.

So far...

...Most Ratings = 5
...Highest Rating = 0
...Most Viewed = 0

Keep the votes comming and get some attention...

I would say that there should be a vote or no vote option as well as a rating system...

The voting system would be for the top five and the rating system for the player's understanding of what might be improved upon.

The viewing being counted might be good... however I also will go to every picture just to see what people did...though this would have to be unique clicks as well... based on account.

So my vote goes to vote or not vote with a separate portion for rating. I would still like to see if someone thinks I could improve a picture. (So... Voting = 1?)

Most ratings.

I don't quite know how to say this, so...hum.. how do we figure in the 'popular' quotient? Many of us seem to have a 'following'! For instance, I always look at certain peoples drawings, & most always vote for them. Some really great pics I may miss (usually catch them, but not always). For instance, matthew & I have nearly identical pics of his pool hall, his has more votes because he does A LOT OF SUPER pics! Don't know how hard to implement, but the math equation formula actually sounded pretty good. I too vote high for a creative idea or something unusual. Then there are the kids...I know several of us vote for them to encourage them. Sure hope Rachel can solve this one!

I would also like to add that if we do the voting system it would be nice to have a gallery for each month just like the top 5 .... So instead of having 1000's of pictures go through... you would know where to go back to, in case you missed a few days of pictures and need to go back to vote on them.

Or only have the option to vote on those made within that month.

Soda

@ Lynnspotter... we can rate to encourage... and vote for top 5?

13. 4 Feb 2009 13:39

matthew

I remember someone mentioning separating rating a pic & voting as top 5 quality...

Not a bad Idea either...

There are plenty of pics I rate... but so often I come across a pic that leaves me in awe...

Those are the pics I wish I could give more than a 5...

...So could we stay with the same system we have, but not use it for top 5 & just have a little "check this box" square below the 1-5 vote that would be a "this is better than a 5 & deserves top 5 consideration box?...

... Then 5 people that get the most "top 5 box" checks get honored....

...Can it be that easy?

...Most votes is pretty easy too, but as pointed out, I have a lot of family & friends that would vote on my pic even if I was the penis boy artist... But they would only check a "top 5" box on my best pics...

I think it could be...

Definitely sounds better than what we have now.

I know I'm opening a new can of worms with this comment, but what would you think of a category called "newcomers top 5", which might include those who have been members a month or so. I'd love to see newbies highlighted.

And just to reinterate, I'd STILL love to be able to see and sort by "most viewed" even if top 5 wasn't based on it. 'nuff said -- I'll stop nagging! ;-)

I guess I already do the vote no vote because I always vote a 5... I figure if it makes me click on it it deserves a 5.

I guess the votes don't mean so much to me sometimes I am very surprised when I see how many votes I get on something....my reward is always the comments...love the comments! and I try to leave a comment everytime I vote on something.

I agree though something needs to be done.. sometimes I almost want to cry when I see someones masterpiece drop because of one persons vote... when a person has 30 votes they should be ahead of someone with 6.

I feel when you have your following - that's it! If you don't know anyone then why bother with it. I think one top five pic should be fair. Not 3 in any one period of time - this would give others a chance to win. Yes, there are beautiful pictures. I think a children's category is wonderful. I'm all for encouraging kids. I think too, art is a wonderful outlet for children. I've had the opportunity to meet some very nice people who I would never have had the opportunity to meet. After being on this site for a short time I was able to pick up a pen and draw a face of someone. Something I couldn't do before. You do learn from it.

What I'm trying to say, I put alot of work into my drawings, as I'm sure others do. I have a lot of drawings. I look at my no. of drawings and my average, forget it! I look at someone else's who may not devote the time, they have less drawings and high average. I don't understand this.

I love love love Soda's idea of monthly galleries!! I also like candr's suggestion of a newcomers top 5. That would really but great to encourage the new folks.

...I am ok with 1 pic in each category... not 1 pic in all of the top 5...

...I also like the newbie & childrens top 5 page...
