I just saw this on TV tonight and thought someone might be interested in joining it: http://www.nocussing.com/index.html

It was started by a 14 year old boy.

I would be more concerned and interested in doing something about the content of a show. But as Baldur said, "few of us would even stand a chance"! So, I watch very little TV, or turn on my music.

I never was much of a swearer so I can't join. I can understand how it would be hard to change; I use to have a bit of a problem with my comments to myself when behind the wheel and someone would do something stupid. Hopefully I have conquered that but that is a hard one. I hear you Lilalee when it come to TV, and most movies today are even worse. It doesn't bother me when watching a movie, usually that is part of the story portrayed but I hate to hear it from people in every day life.

I've never been much of a swearer myself either. I've known a few people who can't utter a single sentence without using the 'F' word 2 or 3 times and it makes them seem so uneducated and crass. They're not using it in an angry was or anything, and I don't think it even occurs to them that they've said it, but it just makes me cringe whenever they open their mouth.

That should have said 'in an angry way' not 'an angry was'

I agree with you, Dragon. I know it sounds like a cliché to say "I blame it on the TV" but I do. It has become the norm' and therefore is assumed to be acceptable behaviour. TV is guilty for bringing such behaviour into my living room. I know, I have the ability to switch it off, true, but why is it necessary anyway. Stand-up comedians are the worst. Billy Connolly is hilarious but, for me, he ruins his act with the language he uses.

I think it makes someone sound uneducated and rough around the edges. I have a neighbor who got saved (born-again) a few years ago and I think she still talks like this which doesn't surprise me a bit. She use to be a drunk and she has cleaned up her act with that. One step at a time, baby steps is all we can all do, we will never be perfect while here on earth. She even planted a flower garden this year; I'm so happy for her! She said she will be out of a job the whole summer, I didn't want to ask what the story is there but she could use some prayers. She was born with a disease where she will lose her ability to walk in time and she is almost there now. I know she is in pain all the time; I don't think she should really be working at all and it probably is coming to that.

I am finding I rather be reading than watch TV. I think many are reading more. I know I am weak in knowing the world around me and I know I will be richer and more mentally in tone now that I started reading up a storm. bookmooch.com has really helped me to get interested in books more than ever.

As my husband says "the way of the world!" Television, one of the greatests inventions and used in the worst way! My problem is not only the swearing, but the content of the show. Whether its the violence or the sex. We all know we have sex, and there is plenty of violence in our world. But to show the auidance the "how to" is unneccessary. It has become the modern day teacher for our children to grow up a little faster than maybe they should. There are no such things as "you said a bad word!" So we can blame TV, some of the music, and video games that are out there contaminating our world and youth.

I think the big one is the media, they tell us what to think and feel. The problem is too many people think/feel what they hear without thinking out what really is real and what they really feel and believe hook line and sinker. Now that takes faith. The same goes with bad language, they hear and follow what others are saying and doing.

It's amazing how much TV has changed in the last few decades. Remember back in the 60's when not only did you never see a married couple in bed, but if you saw their bedroom they always had separate beds. (In fact on I Love Lucy if Desi was ever seen sitting on a bed it was mandatory that he have 1 foot on the floor- so the audience wouldn't get too titilated!)
Nowadays I'm almost surprised when we don't see a nipple or two right out there in plain site.

Yes, we've let it happen. Just need to take it back a step. I didn't have my son till I was almost 40, so by the time he went to elementary, most the moms were half my age, and did find a mom the same as me. But have to say the younger ones were pretty liberal. I realize everthing changes, but when it comes to children the parent should raise the child, not the media. Television is at its worse right now. Popular music is either sexual or violent. And I do remember those old shows, with a good message and a content to make us feel good! And of course, no swearing!

Just wondering if anyone check the link or seen this kid on TV, he use is a good example of a cool kid going in the right direction and he is a good leader to follow for young and old.

Didn't check your link, but have seen him twice on the tele, and have read about his venture. I hardly think people who cuss are going to join in!
