Excerpt:

What is sin?

by Matt Slick

Sin is the breaking of God's law. If God says "Do not lie" and you lie, then you have broken His law and sinned. When you sin, you offend God because it is His law that you have broken. Also, the reason God says to not lie, not cheat, etc., is because these laws reflect the moral purity of His nature. Therefore, the Law is a reflection of the character of God. It is wrong to lie because God cannot lie. It is wrong to steal because God cannot steal, etc. The moral law is not arbitrary. It is based on God's holiness.

This is illustrated by the evenmt that happened in the Garden Eden. There God's will was simply to refrain from eating from a certain tree. But please consider what it meant to disobey that command.

1. The expression of a desire and a demand to go it on their own.
2. The suspicion of evil about God and his motives
3. The taking of sides in a rebellion
4. The calling of God an untrustworthy selfish liar.

Not so simple after all is it?

Genesis 3 -

The Lord God finished making all the wild animals, and the snake was the most clever. One day the snake said to the woman, "Did God really say that you must not eat fruit from any tree in the garden?"
The woman answered, "We can eat fruit from the trees in the garden.
But God told us, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden. You must not touch it. If you do, you will die.' "

Contrary to popular opinion, original sin was not sex relations or knowledge about sex. Please consider the following.

1. God designed them, to procreate.
2. God commanded them to procreate
3. The only way they could procreate was through sex
4. They knew what their organs were for since they had animals to learn from.

So accusing God of punishing Adam and Eve for following his instructions is both illogical and totally unscriptural.

Assuming that God would give instructions to creatures created incapable of understanding them is a defamationn of God's character and a serious sin.

If indeed it were, then Adam and Eve would have been told so they could make an informed decision. Saying that God did not inform them is yet another satanically-approved defamation attempt on God's character

Eve knew exactly what sin was and what death meant in relation to it. She had once been uncreated and had experienced uncreation as a lack of all sensual input. fully understood the meaning in the word 'death' when she used it and when she heard her heavenly father use it. What she expected by returning to the dust was simply oblivion because she had absolutely no logical basis to expect anything else.
