Time Transfixed (La Durée poignardée), 1938, Belgian surrealist René Magritte

This is very rough (takes time to get smoothness with TD palette parts!) and lacks the "empty room" quality of Magritte's, but Space background turns out to offer a wonderfully eerie, empty feeling... ;>

Yes! I did not know this painting, but looked it up. By flipping the background from lighter to darker than the fireplace you have created a new idea here.

Beautiful fireplace. I had to check out this interesting painting...very well done Q!

extremely effective regardless of the difficulties with palette parts...it actually lend to the dimension of the picture. Wonderful! & am considering using this effect of yours for my next 'medieval' entry!

On 2nd look, I seek it IS the locomotive and not a dagger handle - still the fireplace seems an odd place to "Transfix Time." Had no idea this was at Chicago's Art Institue, a place I knew by heart at ages 10-18. VERY well done, Q!

A true and exemplary TD work of a masterpiece!

fireplace = tunnel = portal outside to inside, past to future, etc.

five - and/or fireplace = heart of the home, in this case with an empty hearth & reflecting only 1 candle

Ditto Nancy. You made that dark wall turn in a sort of black hole, a window opened on an entire universe...
