Dear Rachel / ThinkDraw..

Could you possibly change the Top 5 so that an artist could only have ONE picture in the gallery - that way we'd see a lot more good / new artists ?

If you only showed the top rated picture (based on whatever arcane algorithm of most votes, most favourites, most recent, whatever) and then had a star, or something, with 'AND..' underneath their winning picture, which also showed any others they might have had that were 'Top 5' qualifiers, I think most everyone would be happy - it's getting one picture in the Top 5 that matters, not whether you've managed to get 20 in there !

Could you possibly let us know your thoughts on this ? - we haven't heard from you for a while !

I whole heartedly disagree...

Keep in mind that I no longer have multiple pics in the top 5 anymore due to the increase in much better artist becoming members...

I would expect that if one artist drew the 5 best pics in each catergory then that should be the only artist to make the top 5...

It is the TOP 5 not the semi-almost-nearly the best but a little less than great 5...

Just one mans thoughts...

I can see what you're saying.. but what I'm suggesting is that, maybe, it should be 'Top 5 artists' for each month, as opposed to 'Top 5 pictures' ??

Well lets say that "Artist A" is the #1 artist in flowers & #1 in animals... Should they be discounted in one or the other?

I can see having a TOP 5 page, a TOP 5 ARTIST page and a TOP 5 NEWBIE page...

That sounds like a lot of extra TD work to me... but I am clueless as to that... It just might be easy...

I still think "Artist A" should have the right to be #1 in every catergory if they are that good...

Perhaps if people voted more meaningfully again, using their own judgement, instead of putting a 5 every time, or not voting at all?? But woe betide anyone who only gives a 1 vote eh?

How about a top 5 child under 5, a top 5 child over 5, a top 5 teenager, a top 5 adult, a top 5 senior citizen, a top 5 skinny person, a top 5 fat person, a top 5 eccentric, a top 5 people with 4 toes, a top 5 of every nationality etc, etc, etc

Or, how about, instead of still being in the running for the next month - everyone in that month, is automatically 'rested' from the event!

Surely we can create enough catergories so that everyone can get in... Sounds like what they did to childrens sports when they stopped keeping score so that everyone could win...

Our children are growing up without learning to lose gracefully... Americans already have an arrogant sence of entitlement... Now we are teaching them not to acknowledge the possibility that there can be a loser...

Winning is fun, but I know how to acknowldge someone who does it better than me... Learn from them... & even though I gave my best effort in my loss... My next best effort will be an improved effort... This is better than telling me that my last best effort was just as good as someone that was better than me... If my effort was just as good as theirs, what need do i have to improve???

I think the new method with the favorites and the votes is an improvement. Take a look at the favorites versus the votes. It doesn't coincide exactly. It's still not perfect, but it's improving.
Maybe one pic per medium and per artist?
Top 5 is good for newcomers who want to see beautiful pics. But once you get into a Top 5 artist you immediately see his or her OTHER PICS.

Focusing so much on Top 5 takes away lots of energy from THE MAIN PURPOSE of this site: THINKING AND DRAWING, YES DRAWING, DRAWING, DRAWING.

LOL... polenta, I always assumed it would translate with errors... It always frustrates me when I ask someone "how do you say 'XXXX' in your language" & they responded with "there is no word for that in my language" or they use the term "loosely translated"...

How can there be no word for something in another language??? That's just wierd to me...

Imagine if you LOOK UP a word in the dictionary.
Do you have to take the dictionary and put it above your eyes so you LOOK things UP???????
These LOOK UP, GO OVER, TAKE DOWN, etc. drive us crazy.
And the word OFF is more than crazy, it's only for GENIUSES.
You TURN OFF the light (disconnect), the milk is OFF, 50% OFF sale, it's ON AND OFF. You use OFF for what we have dozens of words. What's the meaning of OFF? Only for geniuses as I told you before.
