So I've already started this challenge, but I didn't know that I had to win a challenge to be able to issue one. Since I jumped the gun on that, I will re-issue that same challenge and make December 1 the end of challenge date.

If nobody takes on this challenge, Clorophilla will be the automatic winner since she was the only one earlier to attempt this challenge.

Here is the challenge: Make the things in the palette. Make candy in candy, animals in animals, and so forth. The trick is that you cannot use cow parts to make a cow. You can't use licorice to make licorice. That would be too easy and obvious. You can use any of the other pieces to create those things.

To summarize,1- sorry for the premature issue of a challenge 2- make something in the palette with the other things. 3- winner announced Dec 2

Thanks folks!

I'm starting to think that I'm allowing waaay too much time for this challenge. I'm not sure what the average time is for a challenge. I thought perhaps a month, but now I'm guessing that they are just a week or two long normally?

The lack of participation tells me that either my challenge idea isn't well liked, or that I'm messing up on some other aspect of it. I just don't know what it is that I need to fix. A little feedback would be nice.

I'm still getting the hang of how this community functions. Sorry if I'm a little slow in getting it.

Hi, Bugoy, I usually set a challenge for 10 days, and then, if needed, extend it by whatever period I think right. There is no rule - you're the boss. I don't know why some challenges are more popular than others...maybe people are busy, or can't quite get into the spirit of the thing. I think people often have a completely different interpretation of an idea, or they don't see your vision. You have already ably illustrated how it works, so I must put some 'think' into'draw' now!

Thank you so much for the reply Lizzi! I'm never quite sure if I'm breaking some kind of unwritten rule here. So it's nice to hear from someone on this.

I think that I'll shorten the time then on this one. Instead of first of December, I'll end it on the 17th of this month. So if any of you were going to jump on this one, you'd better get going.

Good luck to you all!

I didn't realize you had started a SECOND one without understanding how it works. Might be well to put this one back into the box and give us the results of your first foray into challenge land. You could save this idea for down the road, as you will doubtless win one soon enough!

Winning, I might add, is based entirely on the whim of the person issuing the challenge. Might have to do with who has faithfully attempted, thus showing interest. Might be somebody who has NOT won for quite a while. Or might relate to a given picture that just tickled your fancy. No rules about that.

Ah - now I see that you were the winner of Stella's Autumn challenge. To make things more confusing, we have long had TWO challenge threads. The one you won is the "mugdots challenge," named after an early participant. The other is just challenge #whatever. I don't now whether there is a way to rename this one, but you might start by mentioning the prior one to help keep people straight, especially people like me, who look at the Forum only once in a while!

Sorry about that, Normal. I didn't know that the name of it meant so much. So thank you for the information. I never would have guessed. I've always wondered what "mugdots" meant. Now I know!

Is there a way to edit the title of this now? I should go back and fix that.

clorophilla

there has been some mess with the challenges... you has been the winner of both challenges:
Challenge 115 (CXV) - Hollywood
Mugdots Challenge 108 (CVIII) - Autumn

so you now have the baton for Challenge 116 / CXVI (that I suggested could be the unoverlapping challenge), and for the challenge 109 / CIX (that could be this one, the palette challenge.
If you agree to this, we could fix all with the next turn of the two challenge (we can't edit the title of a 3D anymore).

It is also unusual that the same person take the baton of both the challenges, but this is it. Now be careful not to pass both to the same person!
Hope you'll have more participation, and feel free to chose anyone you like to.

When you close one challenge, I suggest to past and copy the pics all toghether if, as in this case, they could be spreaded in many topics.
hope this works!

Thank goodness for Clo, who always seems to understand what's going on!

I second that, Normal. Clo is an excellent organizer. I'm glad it's sorted out.

I pass you the baton for the next challenge. Enjoy!

thank you bugoy!
InTheOcean, hope you could join the next challenge, and, of course, if you want to try the palette challenge for enjoying, you can feel free to try, out of competitions, and add pics in this topic as you want.

Many challenges became permanent topics in this way.

Sorry InTheOcean. I didn't see your question. I ended the challenge on the 17th. But like Clorophilla said, if you'd like to submit something, that would be great. I look forward to seeing what you produce.
